The Swedish National Collections of Music

The Swedish National Collections of Music incorporates the institutions The Music Library of Sweden, The Stockholm Music Museum and The Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research as well as an administrative department.

Responsibilities

The Swedish National Collections of Music is a central government body for music. The fundamental responsibilities are to document, collect, maintain, preserve, describe and keep alive the musical heritage and thereby enhance the interest in music, musicology, and long term accumulation of knowledge.

The Swedish National Collections of Music shall keep documentation and collections available for education, research and other studies through loans, programmes, exhibitions, and publications. The Swedish National Collections of Music shall conduct research activities and participate in international co-operation within it's field of activity.

The Swedish National Collections of Music shall contribute to music life in Sweden through development of good prerequisites for performances and other dissemination of music.

The Institutions

The Music Library of Sweden deals with music in print and manuscripts, books on music, bibliography and other library functions as well as national documentation of archives and pictures within the domain of music.

The Stockholm Museum of Music deals with collection and preservation of musical instruments, exhibitions, educational activities and other museum activities.

The Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research deals with vocal and instrumental folk music and Swedish jazz music.
